In The Works - In The Woods Festival

Rumor has it that there is something very exciting going on this weekend - and it is something enticing enough to pull you from where you stand and bring you out to the Sullivan Catskills. And, no, we are not just being dramatic. Pun intended. It is just going to be that fantastic.

We’ve all been through a lot over the last year - including our very own Forestburgh Playhouse. And it’s no lie we have all been a little cooped up in our homes, too. But with support,  encouragement, and love of theatre, we can come together and revive our theatrical souls.

The In The Works annual theatre festival is kicking off and you are not going to want to miss it.

What It’s All About

Artists of all types know that you support other artists - it’s just what you do. We are a community that embraces skills and talents and helps see others step into their shining moment. In The Works is dedicated to giving a platform and raising up playwrights, composers, lyricists as well as theatrical works and cabaret.

The more time you spend at In The Works, the more talent you will encounter. You can expect to be moved by the experience as well as feel a bit revived. And, who couldn’t use a little of that?

In addition to all the works and cabarets, you can expect staged readings, talkbacks, celebrity Q&A’s, special VIP events, parties, and more!

Franklin Trapp, the Producing Artistic Director for the Forestburgh Playhouse and Matt Lenz, the Festival Artistic Director are the Founding Executive Producers of the In The Works festival. And, with the help of dozens of theatre-makers from Broadway and beyond, they have come together to give you an experience you won’t want to miss.

Tell Me About the Presentations

It is not every day that you get to experience brand new plays and musicals - or even impromptu talks with theatre celebrities. Here’s what you can find:

A bluegrass musical comedy, By Any Other Name, by Deborah Zoe Laufer (book and lyrics) and Daniel Green (music and additional lyrics), directed by Noah Himmelstein.

A Romance Depot owner and a woman in need of a vibrator… Need we say more? This Happened Once At The Romance Depot Off The I-87 In Westchester is a new play by Gina Femia, directed by Taylor Reynolds.

The combination of a chihuahua, ruby zapatillas, and a yellow brick road in a magical world is just a tiny piece of the new bi-lingual musical for young audiences - El Otro Oz: La Maravillosa Adventure of Dora Garza, by Mando Alvarado and Tommy Newman (book), Jaime Lozano and Tommy Newman (music and lyrics), and directed by Rebecca Aparicio.

Actor and director Alan Muraoka’s solo musical cabaret evenings featuring Belinda Allyn and Frank James Johnson, a new funny work in progress by Didi Conn, and so much more.

Get ready to be carried away into the lives of all these unforgettable characters that will surely leave you wanting more.

Tickets, Tickets, Get Your Tickets!

We want to see you at the In The Works festival so don’t forget your ticket. We have three different ticket options - or passport options - as we prefer to call them here at Forestburgh Playhouse. After all, our talents will take you to faraway places.

  • Friends of Forestburgh, $150.00

  • Miracle of the Forest VIP, $500.00

  • Festival Founder VIP, $1,000.00 (2 passes)

Each passport option comes with many perks, including things like VIP receptions, Q&A time following a presentation, preferred seating, and more. Be sure to review them as you purchase yours. We’d hate for you to miss out on something spectacular.
